Have you heard? Etsy has partnered with NASA to, according to the official announcement here, “celebrate artistic exploration and commemorate the end of the NASA Space Shuttle Program with a creative challenge: Share an original handmade item or work of art inspired by the NASA Space Shuttle Program and space exploration at large. You could win a trip to an upcoming launch as NASA’s VIP guest, Etsy shopping sprees, and cool merchandise from NASA and Etsy. Your artwork might even be flown on the Space Shuttle!”
You do have to be a member of Etsy to participate, but I’m guessing that at least some of your clientele have accounts with the handicraft haven site. Why not promote the contest at your shop with a sale of intergalatic proportions? Dress up an endcap with space-themed kits, starry night-inspired fibers, astronaut-worthy fabrics. Let non-Etsy members join in the fun by running a mini space-themed contest of your own. Display the entries at the shop; perhaps let all who enter receive 10% off their next purchase (to encourage participation) and the winner — judged by popular vote — gets a $50 gift certificate. Heck, throw inaybe of Tang).
The final Space Shuttle mission is scheduled for November, so it all ties in. What say? Share your thoughts and ideas below or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. And if you reach for the stars and go for it, let me know!
